“Gone” marks a triumphant return for guitar/synth/pop duo the Blessed Isles. A pre-EP single release, “Gone” mixes swooning guitars and sophisticated electronics with brisk melodies and meditative sequences that re-call the best elements of shoegaze while nicely updating that sound for the 21st century.

The Blessed Isles is Nolan Thies and Aaron Closson—one part Brooklyn, New York and one part Dallas, Texas. After the duo’s debut full-length release in 2016, Closson began feeling unwell and experiencing symptoms that led to a diagnosis of a brain tumor. Future plans were put on hold. After a successful craniotomy, Closson slowly resumed sharing ideas with Thies. The resulting music documents the period of uncertainty following his health crisis, as well as the dissolution of his marriage.

The new music showcases a wider range of electronic instrumentation and expands on the band’s signature sound of expansive guitars and electronic pop. While the broadened sonic palette lends texture and depth to the compositions, the focused songwriting remains the centerpiece. Tuneful and introspective, the songs voice defiance in the face of adversity. The Havoc EP is due out spring of 2020 on Ephemeral Arts Records.
